Seek, Set, Mortify, Put Off, Put On, Let
I am sharing the revelation God has given me. I have been living this out and have seen the mighty hand of God work in me as a result. First He revealed to me in my mind and heart, then He showed me in Colossians 3 that Paul had already laid this out. This is a divine pattern for those serious about holiness and serving Christ as overcomes. The grace, (enabling power of God) to perform that which Paul has laid out here will be given in the same order as it appears in the text. Use this as a mirror to inspect your status, to pin point where you are on the road to the Holiness without which no one will see God. This is your gauge. If you find you can’t seem to get past something, this is the time to fast and pray. One can always fast and pray. One can always come boldly to the throne of grace. So when we can’t get past a sin or a fault in our character or any sort of ungodliness, we can fast and pray and God will do what only He can do for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Philippians 2: (Hebrews 4:16 let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.) For example, one should have repented and be living in victory over the items listed after the word “mortify” before expecting to be victorious in putting on the character described after the phrase “put on”. God demands repentance and Holiness for He is Holy. He has not called us to that which we cannot perform. The blood of Christ has made it possible for us to walk in the grace of God, in the presence and power of His Holy Spirit. Read for yourself and discover the pattern, the divine order of God as inspired by The Holy Ghost in the words of Paul.
Seek Col 3:1 if, (since) ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Col 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Col 3:3 for ye are dead and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Col 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
Mortify; Col 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: Col 3:6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: Col 3:7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. Put off; Col 3:8 but now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Col 3:9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
Put On; Col 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Col 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. Col 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Col 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. Col 3:14 and above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. (This can be said this way, “And above all these things put on agape love, which is the seal and the mark of holiness”).Let; Col 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Now you may enter in to His rest. For there is no rest for the wicked. Once your repentance is complete the peace of Christ will flood your being, all you have to do is “let” the peace of God rule in your heart. Now we may serve Christ on earth as we wait for His appearing when we will, “receive the reward of the inheritance” Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Col 3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Col 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. Col 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Col 3:21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. Col 3:22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eye service, as men pleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: Col 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Col 3:24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Col 3:25 but he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
